Common questions

Where does the UV data come from?

The hourly UV forecast is sourced from Open-Meteo. The data is calculated for your latitude and longitude. We do not run a forecast server of our own; the app asks Open-Meteo directly.

Is the timer accurate enough to prevent burns?

No timer can prevent burns. Honest Tan helps you plan around peak UV and reminds you to flip, reapply, and stop — but skin sensitivity, sweat, water, sunscreen quality, and altitude all affect actual burn time. Use the timer as a coach, not as a medical device. If your skin feels hot, painful, or irritated, stop.

Why does the planner say I should tan in the morning or evening?

Lower-UV windows — usually before 10 a.m. and after 4 p.m. depending on your latitude and the season — deliver tanning UV with much less skin damage. Tanning during peak UV hours is a fast track to burning. The planner finds the windows where the UV index is lower and recommends them.

How do I restore my Pro subscription on a new iPhone?

Open Honest Tan, go to Settings, and tap “Restore purchase.” This re-checks your Apple ID and unlocks the planner again at no charge.

How do I cancel?

Go to iOS Settings → tap your name at the top → Subscriptions → Honest Tan Pro → Cancel Subscription. You can also tap “Manage Subscription” inside the Honest Tan Settings tab.

Does Honest Tan track me?

No. There are no analytics SDKs, no advertising identifiers, no third-party trackers, and no backend that we could log anything on. The only data leaving the device is your latitude and longitude going directly to the public UV forecast API.

Do you have an Android version?

Not at this time. Honest Tan is iOS-only.

Refunds

Subscription refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. To request one, visit reportaproblem.apple.com and select your Honest Tan purchase. We have no ability to issue refunds directly because we never receive your payment information.
