What we don’t
collect about you.

Honest Tan is built to be the simplest answer to a privacy question: we do not collect anything. Your timer and history stay on your phone, while forecast lookups go directly from your device to Open-Meteo.

What we collect

Nothing. Honest Tan has no backend, no analytics SDK, no third-party trackers, no advertising identifiers, and no crash reporters. We don’t run servers that could collect data about you because we don’t run any servers at all.

Location

If you grant location permission, your latitude and longitude are sent directly from your device to the Open-Meteo forecast endpoint to fetch the hourly UV data for your area. Your location is not logged on any server we control. We never receive it. You can use Honest Tan without granting location by entering a city manually.

Sessions and history

The timer history (how long you sat in the sun, the UV readings during the session, your goals and reminder settings) lives in your iPhone’s local preferences storage. Your purchase status is verified by Apple’s StoreKit and cached locally. None of this leaves your device.

Notifications

If you enable reminders, Honest Tan schedules local notifications on your iPhone for flipping, reapplying sunscreen, and stopping. These are local to your device. We never push remote notifications.

Children’s privacy

Honest Tan is appropriate for all ages. Because we collect nothing, we cannot collect data from children.

Third parties

Two third parties are involved: Apple (for purchase processing through the App Store and StoreKit subscription handling), and Open-Meteo (for UV forecasts). Apple’s and Open-Meteo’s privacy practices are governed by them, not by us. The forecast API receives only the latitude and longitude you choose to send. We never share data with anyone because we don’t have any data to share.

Subscriptions

The optional Honest Tan Pro tier is an annual auto-renewable subscription processed by Apple. We never see your payment information. To cancel, manage your subscriptions in iOS Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions, or via Honest Tan’s Settings → Manage Subscription.

Changes

If we ever change this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top. The substance is unlikely to change because the app is built around not collecting anything in the first place.
